Cheese was on the menu for legal eagles at a city centre law firm yesterday [Thurs] as the Eat! festival brought a taste of Northumberland to Newcastle.

Staff at Eversheds in Central Square South, Newcastle, got the chance to sample some of the region's finest produce after the law firm invited North-East suppliers to showcase their food and drink in the company's cafe.

Yesterday, lawyer Jessica Pierce and marketing assistant Kate Orton were among those who spent their lunch break sampling cheese made by Mark Robertson of the Northumberland Cheese Company to coincide with NewcastleGateshead's first ever food festival.

The festival, which finishes on Sunday, [April 15]has been organised by the NewcastleGateshead Initiative (NGI) to showcase the best food produced and served in the region's shops, restaurants and hotels. It is hoped the festival will help to encourage healthy eating in the North.

A food tasting market is taking place at Northern Stage Square, Kings Walk, Newcastle University, between 10am and 5pm today [Fri] and a Ten Things to Eat Before you Die event is being held at the Discovery Museum's Great Hall on Sunday to bring the festival to a close.
