A crash involving four vehicles caused tailbacks on a busy North East road.
Drivers on the Coast Road in North Tyneside suffered delays following the collision at Billy Mill roundabout.
Two of the three lanes on the carriageway towards the coast were blocked after the four vehicle crash at around 2.20pm yesterday afternoon.
Police and paramedics attended the scene but only one person required hospital treatment for a minor injury.
The lanes were closed for just over an hour while recovery work took place. The road was fully reopened again at 3.27pm.
A 56-year-old motorist, from Cullercoats, said: “I was driving up to Newcastle and I saw a big queue of traffic and at least seven or eight police cars and an ambulance. I could see a woman on a stretcher being put into the ambulance. It looked quite serious.”
A Northumbria Police spokesman said: “We received a report of a four vehicle road traffic collision at 2.18pm on Sunday, February 2 on the Coast Road at Billy Mill roundabout towards Tynemouth. The collision blocked two of the three lanes and the road was fully reopened at 3.27pm.
“There was only one minor injury and everybody else was reported to be OK.”
