Celebrities will experience life on the other side of the lens after being asked to get behind the camera for next weekend's Great North Run.

Stars will snap away at the thousands of runners as part of a 13.1 mile art installation.

Artist Julian Germain is employing TV stars, MPs and spectators to help collect 141,000 shots of the Great North Run for his new work The Running Line.

The photos will be joined together to create a line of images the length of the route. TV mathematician Carol Vorderman; former spin doctor Alastair Campbell; actor Jimmy Nail and actress Amanda Burton are some of the celebrities asked to participate.

Julian, from Allenheads in Northumberland, will exhibit the photos in Saltwell Park, Gateshead, next September.

To take part, post photographs taken on October 1 along the BUPA Great North Run route, together with their name and address to: The Running Line, PO Box 1162 Newcastle, NE99 4TS.
