And it’s always good causes local to players that benefit and as players increase so does support for good causes. Participants play with their postcode too, so they often find themselves celebrating with their neighbours when their postcode is drawn as a winner. Only last November, three players in the NE37 1UB Washington area shared £1 million in the Postcode Millions.

Strengthening communities is one of the main aims of People’s Postcode Lottery and good causes local to players benefit.

People’s Postcode Trust, meanwhile, is a charity funded by players of People’s Postcode Lottery to give smaller community groups and charities one-off grants. People’s Postcode Trust aims to make the North East and the rest of Britain, a better place for both people and planet.

Players of the Lottery have raised over £20.7 million for good causes and the Trust has distributed £4.9 million to over 850 smaller community projects across the country.

The Vote that Counts campaign with The Journal is the first time in the North East that the public will be able to directly decide which charities will receive the funds distributed by the Trust. Voters do not need to play People’s Postcode Lottery to vote for one of the six deserving charities on our shortlist.
