Weekend of fun to be had in Northumberland

COUNTRY shows and historical re-enactments will feature during a packed programme of Bank Holiday events across the North East.

COUNTRY shows and historical re-enactments will feature during a packed programme of Bank Holiday events across the North East.

Among the highlights today is the Bellingham Show, in Northumberland, one of the largest and oldest in the region.

The show, which attracts thousands of visitors, will feature Above and Beyond trapeze artists, circus workshops, performances from Morpeth Pipe Band and the Stuart Walton Sheep Dog Display.

Rachel Pearson, show secretary, said: “It’s really sunny and lovely weather at the minute so we’re expecting large crowds.”

The show will take place from 9am until 5pm, and if the weather doesn’t hold up, the two beer tents at the show will certainly provide perfect shelter.

During the weekend, there will also be a whole host of activities designed to celebrate Northumberland’s heritage.

The Cavalry Fort at Chollerford, Humshaugh, and a Roman Festival at Hadrian's Wall will both celebrate the history of the county on Sunday and Monday featuring costumes and activities for the kids.

Meanwhile, the Glendale Show will be taking place on Monday, in Wooler, Northumberland, from 9am.

The show boasts more exhibitors this year than ever, with main events including fashion shows, cookery demonstrations, and a red parachute display.

Barbara Huddart, managing director of Glendale PR, said: “There’s everything that anyone could possibly want at the show.

“It’s great for the whole family and most importantly. It’s the best place to experience the Northumberland countryside.”

The Rennington Scarecrow show, near Alnwick, Northumberland, takes place across the weekend, with an invasion of scarecrows in the picturesque village.
