FINELY-carved bird boxes and elegant newspaper racks have been taking shape at the St John Ambulance Northumbria Day Centre in Berwick.

St John's were given £2,000 by the Community Foundation to employ a woodwork tutor to spend time with centre users, teaching them rudimentary skills in carpentry.

FAMILIES are invited to a free open-air theatre in Gateshead.

Revolution, performed by theatre company Artizani in Saltwell Park on September 10, is a comic and touching tale of doomed love set on an ever-changing carousel. Shows start at 12.30pm and 2.30pm.

AN exhibition showcasing products and services for the elderly, carers and the disabled is taking place in County Durham.

The free Promoting Independence day, organised by Durham County Council, will feature national and local suppliers who will be available to speak about new products and techniques. Walls plea

ACCOMMODATION providers in Berwick are calling for more to be done to promote the Town's famous Elizabethan Walls.

They believe it could help boost the number of visitors to the area. They are calling for English Heritage, the custodians of the Walls, to consider producing free information leaflets for tourists.
