Barnardo's Newcastle Pyramid Scheme from Jesmond, Newcastle, which helps build youngsters' confidence and self-esteem, has been awarded a Queen's Award for Voluntary Service - giving recognition to scores of volunteers who work for the charity.

BIRDS of prey will be in flight over a rare County Durham heathland this August bank holiday.

A COUNCIL employee is celebrating 40 years of service in public libraries.

Witness appeal

A WOMAN who witnessed a sat-nav system being stolen from a car is being urged to contact police.

The woman contacted the driver of a Nissan after seeing the vehicle broken into and the satellite-navigation system taken on Albion Way in Blyth between 5.10am and 5.30am on August 6.

The owner of the car did not take the woman's details and police are urging her to contact them on (01661) 872555.
