Two women killed in County Durham road crash

TWO women have died and third is in a critical condition in hospital after a road crash in County Durham.

TWO women have died and third is in a critical condition in hospital after a road crash in County Durham.

Emergency services, including the air ambulance, were called to the smash, involving three cars, on Front Street, in Shotton, yesterday at 6.05pm.

The two female drivers were killed and a woman passenger suffered series internal injuries and is in a critical condition in Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary.

A further two passengers are in James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough and their condition is described as stable.

A Fiat 500 and an MGZR were travelling east on the road towards Peterlee when the Fiat was hit by a Citroen Xsara. The driver of the Citroen, a local man, was uninjured in the crash.

The road was closed for five hours following the accident and police are now appealing for anyone with any information to get in touch.
