THIS week we road test a luxurious spa manicure, £25, at Saks Hair & Beauty.

Our hands can take such a hammering in everyday life, when you think of all that exposure to the elements and being drenched in water every few hours.

They are so often neglected it's little wonder hands are one of the first areas of the body to show signs of ageing.

So it's such a luxury to indulge in a super-soothing spa manicure once in a while in an attempt to hold back the years.

And a spa manicure at Saks Hair & Beauty in the David Lloyd Club in Gosforth is just the ticket.

Therapist Maxine began by tidying up tatty cuticles and shaping my neglected nails.

Using all Jessica products, she then massaged in gorgeous smelling citrus exfoliator to hands and forearms, to help brighten and smooth skin.

A crystal activator was next applied to moisturise skin deeply.

And then for my favourite bit, hands were popped into electric heated mitts for five to 10 minutes.

The deliciously soothing heat helps to open pores for maximum moisturising.

After 10 minutes of heavenly heat, Maxine then removed all the lotions and potions with flannel mitts.

Polish was then applied – first a clear base coat, followed by two coats of colour, my choice being a hot pink Tutti-Frutti shade from Jessica. Maxine finished off with a clear top coat.

Nails looked perfectly groomed and skin felt super-hydrated by the end of the 45-minute treatment.

Spa manicure, £25, lasts 45 minutes.

Book either a spa manicure, £25, or spa pedicure, £30, at Saks at David Lloyd, Gosforth, and receive free mini Jessica nail polish, worth £6.

The offer runs until the end of July.
