A rare chance to grab a unique slice of musical history will come under the hammer tonight in aid of charity.

The Teenage Cancer Trust is holding a fund-raising auction at the Assembly Rooms in Newcastle where one of the star turns is a guitar autographed by some of the most influential names in rock. Among the names are The Who's Roger Daltrey, The Jam's Paul Weller and Liam and Noel Gallagher from Oasis.

Their signatures appear alongside Richard Ashcroft, Kenny Jones and all of Coldplay, generating enough interest to bring a £2,000 reserve for the sought-after acoustic Yamaha, which also sports some freehand "artwork" by the rock stars.

The event will also feature opera singers, salsa dancers and contortionists as entertainers from across the UK join forces to help raise vital funds for the TCT unit at the Royal Victoria Infirmary.

Organisers are taking telephone bids for the special auction until 7.30pm tonight. To make your bid call Abbe Cussins on 07785 397 430.
