A major benefits take-up campaign has been launched in County Durham to ensure all carers know what they can claim.

The county council's Welfare Rights Service is particularly targeting older carers who may also be entitled to Council Tax Benefit during national Carers Week, which runs until Friday.

People can call the Welfare Rights advice line on 0191 370 8787 between 10am and 2pm weekdays.

Rotary fun

THE Rotary Club of Durham Elvet raised funds by entertaining shoppers at the weekend outside Sainsbury's, Durham.

The Rotary club organised a Northumbrian Piper to pipe on Saturday. Houghton Performance and Art's Schools troop of dancers performed to disco and ballroom music yesterday.
