La Banda Europa will be performing live in Saltwell Park. The group has been called the new `sound of Europe', as it brings together musicians from throughout Europe who play instruments from their respective countries.

The ensemble of top musicians includes Pascal Lefeuvre, thought to be the best hurdy gurdy player in the world, trombonist John Kenny, ranked in the World's Top 10 by The Observer. Ditte Anderson will be playing the Nyckelharpa alongside bass clarinetist, Dick Lee.

The piece has been especially commissioned by Newcastle Gateshead Initiative and was composed by Creative Scotland Award winner Jim Sutherland. It will be conducted by Rick Taylor. Entry is free for the annual event held in Gateshead's award-winning park and the show will kick off at 2pm on Sunday.
