Large-scale roadworks started on the Felling bypass on January 28. Work is now about to start on the installation of street lighting and a safety barrier which will mean the eastbound carriageway being temporarily reduced to a single lane. The work is due to start on Monday and is expected to last six weeks.

LinkUp again

A SECOND LinkUp bus is being commissioned for South Tyneside, offering personalised journeys that can be booked over the phone.

And a new bus service, the 599, will be introduced from March 25 to provide local evening journeys for the community around Jarrow town centre and Low Simonside.

More than 700 people a week in South Tyneside now use LinkUp, which was launched in July 2006.

Enjoy sport

A CLUB has been launched to help youngsters enjoy sport.

The Multi-Skills club is being run by South Tyneside Council's sports development team to encourage children aged five to eight to learn basic skills and experience being part of a team.

The group meets at Monkton Stadium every Wednesday from 4.30pm to 5.30pm. Sessions are £1.80.
