Two North-East poets will travel to the Netherlands later this month to take part in a series of readings in schools, libraries and pubs.

Two North-East poets will travel to the Netherlands later this month to take part in a series of readings in schools, libraries and pubs.

Keith Armstrong and Paul Summers will be visiting Newcastle's twin city of Groningen during the week beginning October 30.

They will perform with Groningen's official city poet Ronald Ohlsen and also meet poets in Amsterdam and Groningen with a view to working together on projects.

AN artist and photographer is asking for help from the thousands of runners and spectators at last weekend's Great North Run in a bid to make his next work a record-breaker.

Julian Germain, based in Allenheads, near Hexham, Northumberland is aiming to collect 141,000 images, featuring every aspect of the run, to create an exhibition, which will the same length as the race - 13.1 miles.

The Running Line will be exhibited in Gateshead's Saltwell Park in September and October next year as part of the Great North Run Cultural Programme.

Net gains

A COUNCIL has reported an increase in the popularity of its online services.

Since the launch of online applications for school admissions, South Tyneside Council has received more than 240 online applications.

There are now over 130 council services which are available online.

Gallery fun

A GATESHEAD art gallery is running a series of free activities for children this October half-term.

Children can learn about patterns at the Shipley Art Gallery on October 24 and 26, from 10am to noon and from 1pm to 3pm. They will also be able to enjoy the Tudor Lives exhibition, which features two rooms of historical exhibits.

Also on show is Skin Deep, a touring exhibition from the National Maritime Museum which examines the history of tattooing.

Teeing off

BUDDING Tiger Woods will compete in a juniors open at Longhirst Hall golf course near Morpeth at 11am on October 23.
