At 11am, the Newcastle and England legend will officially open the new £1.5m swimming and therapy pools at Sir Charles Parsons School, in Walker.

The school is special school for pupils aged 11 to 19 with severe and profound and multiple learning difficulties.

Biggest gift

BOSSES at the MetroCentre are sending out a little love this Valentine's day by providing North refugees with the world's largest Christmas stocking.

It was made by staff, shoppers and people from the community over Christmas 2005, took a Guinness World Record last summer and is being given to the West End Refugee Service to be made into blankets.
