A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own a property on a picturesque North East beach has arisen, for just £25,000.

A timber hut overlooking a stunning bay between the Northumberland villages of Alnmouth and Boulmer has gone on the open market.

Prospective owners are already fighting over the property, meaning the asking price is set to be bettered.

Coquet View at Seat Point sleeps four and is set in its own fenced and lawned garden with steps to the beach.

It is being sold by Judy Hill, a 67-year-old artist who lives at Osborne Place in Alnmouth and has owned it for around 30 years.

She last night told how her sons have grown up and now live in London. As they only occasionally venture North to enjoy the property, their annual reunions in the hideaway are among the rare times it is used.

Mrs Hill used to live in Ponteland but now she is based so close to the hut, she feels there is little point staying in it and said it merely serves as somewhere to read the Sunday newspapers.

She also has a property in France which reduces the time she is at Alnmouth.

Mrs Hill said: “It is a shame for it just to sit there and for a family not to be able to use with children. It is a sad day but these decisions have to be made.”

The hut’s owner added: “Every year we get people putting notes through the door saying if you want to sell, let me know.”

The hut has a kitchen/sitting room and a bedroom with two single built in beds plus a bunk bed.

The kitchen is fitted with a work surface, shelving and a gas cooker, while the sitting area has a built in sofa and views overlooking the beach.

The property is close to Alnmouth train station on the East Coast Main Line and not far from attractions such as the Farne Islands, Lindisfarne, and Alnwick Castle and Garden.

Mrs Hill is marketing the property through North East estate agents George F White.

Property manager Gemma Miller last night said interest in the hut has been massive with people entering bids without having seen it and numerous viewings being arranged. She expects the sale cost to greatly exceed the asking price.

The estate agent said: “It’s a dream come true for so many people to own a quiet, little hideaway like this. A well maintained beach hut in such a beautiful setting comes up for sale once in a lifetime.

“If you love the coast and the sea, imagine owning this little piece of paradise where you can spend as much free time as you wish just messing about on the beach and enjoying the beautiful scenery.

“We are expecting a huge amount of interest from all over the UK.”
