The One Show was filmed live from the banks of the River Tyne last night.
Hosts of the popular BBC show Alex Jones and Matt Baker were joined during the broadcast at The Sage Gateshead by none other than Newcastle United hero Alan Shearer.
Matt, who hails from Easington in County Durham, said he was overjoyed to be in the region for the show’s Summer Festival tour.
He said: “It is lovely to be back.
“I love working up here, for me it is great to come home and commute from there because I spend quite a lot of time travelling around Britain.
“Everybody has been welcoming The One Show with open arms.
“It is nice to bring the crew up here and show everyone what a wonderful part of the world the North East is.”
The shows build-up started on Tuesday with a Summer Festival stage in the same area, hosted by Angellica Bell.
The festival was also made up of zoned areas – consumer finance, history, art, sport and science – all hosted by some of The One Show presenters alongside experts from the North East.
History-lover Larry Lamb shared stories of the region’s industrial heritage while Declan Curry and Jasmine Birtles were offering people financial advice.
Christine Walkden was giving advice on gardening in the North East and sharing ideas on autumn planting, and Olympian Iwan Thomas illustrated how the North East’s glorious sporting heritage – athletics, football, rugby union and rowing – can benefit personal health.
Science presenter and comedian Steve Mould took people through interactive experiments and scientific know-how.
Rastamouse and Da Easy Crew also brought their Summer Rocksteady Reggae Tour to take in Gateshead, as co-creator Michael De Souza presents a musical extravaganza of rhythm, reading, storytelling and music.
Carol Bell, Head of Culture and Major Events at NewcastleGateshead Initiative, said: “The One Show has become an institution for Britons across the country who eagerly tune in and to host this special episode on Gateshead Quays is very exciting.”
