Cumbrian peer and arts presenter, Lord Melvyn Bragg, is filming in the North-East for a four part ITV1 travel series.
Titled Melvyn Bragg's Travels in Written Britain, it will examine how writers have reflected the natural and man-made landscape, and the lives of their people.
Melvyn Bragg said of the series: "I want to show a Britain described not only by great writers but also by the mighty, ordinary people, enough of whom wrote valuable essential recalls of their lives."
His tour will focus on four key areas of Britain including London, the Midlands, Scotland and the North of England. The North section will include Jarrow to explore the writings of Catherine Cookson, Hadrian's Wall for the Vindolanda Writing Tablets and the WH Auden poem, Roman Wall Blues, before travelling across to Carlisle Castle and into the Lake District.
