The theatre at Tyne Metropolitan College, in Wallsend, is being named after Tom Hadaway, the writer who died last year. His widow Barbara will attend a naming ceremony next Wednesday.

Station opens

A NEW fire station at Washington is officially opened today. [FRI]

Washington Community Fire Station, built under the Government's Public Private Partnership scheme, will be opened by fire authority chair Peter Young.

It is the latest of six community fire stations to be built under the scheme, which has also provided headquarters.

Buses for pupils

CHANGES to transport arrangements for pupils in Northumberland will be discussed at meetings of the county council's area committees this month, which members of the public are welcome to attend.

The Blyth Valley committee meets at 10.30am on March 21 at Cramlington's Concordia leisure centre, Alnwick's at 10.30am on March 15 in the Northumberland Hall, Wansbeck's at 10.30am on March 22 in Bedlington community centre and Castle Morpeth's at 2pm on March 22 at Lynemouth resource centre.

Spring fair

A CHURCH in Northumberland is holding its spring fair tomorrow. [SAT]

Stalls at the fair, organised by St James's United Reformed Church at Alnwick, will include bric-a-brac, plants and tombola. The event will be at the Northumberland Hall, Alnwick, from 9.30am.
