Kylie fans on marks for tickets

POP singer Kylie Minogue is returning to the North-East next summer to perform two concerts – and could break her own record in the process.

The last time she was at the Newcastle Arena, back in 2002, the diminutive Australian performed the fastest-selling gigs by a solo female singer at the venue. Over 19,000 tickets will go on sale at 9am on Saturday for concerts on July 20 and 21 next year.

Paul Tappenden, marketing director of what is now the Metro Radio Arena, says the record has held until now but could be broken tomorrow morning.

He said originally the KylieX2008 tour had included just four British cities – Glasgow, Manchester, Belfast and London – but Newcastle had now been added.

"This is a fantastic announcement for the Arena," said Mr Tappenden. "We are so excited to confirm such an awesome show."

In 2002, Kylie also set a record for the Arena’s biggest fully seated audience – 10,123 people.

This might not be broken. Mr Tappenden said the number of tickets to be sold was limited by the huge set which will accompany Kylie on tour.

Kylie said yesterday: "I am putting together a show that is going to be a new and exciting experience for both the audience and myself."

Tickets will cost £49 and will be limited to six per household to thwart touts. They will be available only by phone – 0844 493 6666 for credit card booking – or online from Ticketmaster via www.metroradioarena.co.uk
