POP and TV superstar Jessie J is to headline an outdoor show at Alnwick Castle this summer, it was announced last night.

Jessie J, best known for her number one hit Price Tag and as a coach and mentor on TV show The Voice, will lead the line-up at the event in the Pastures beneath the castle on Saturday, July 21.

Twelve thousand fans are expected to flock to the castle, home to the Duke and Duchess of Northumberland, making it the biggest event ever to be held at the venue.

Bosses there last night said the concert would establish the castle as one of the UK’s major venues for outdoor summer shows, following gigs featuring the likes of Jools Holland and Status Quo in recent years.

Jessie J came to prominence following the release of her debut single Do It Like a Dude which peaked at number two.

After scoring her first number one in the UK, France, Ireland and New Zealand with Price Tag, she released her debut album Who You Are last year, which charted at number two.

Other releases include Nobody’s Perfect, Who’s Laughing Now and Who You Are which all made the top 20.

Fifth single Domino spawned international success, peaking at number six on the American Billboard Hot 100 and becoming her second UK number one.

With her latest hit, Laserlight, Jessie J has set a new chart record of six single hits from a debut album. Citing various influences, she is recognised for an unconventional musical and performance style that mixes her soul sound with contemporary R&B, pop music and hip-hop influences.

Jessie J has won various awards and nominations for her contributions to the music industry, including the 2011 Critics’ Choice BRIT Award and the BBC’s Sound of 2011. Marketing manager at the castle Caroline Smith said: “We are delighted to announce that Brit Award Winner Jessie J will be performing live on Alnwick Castle pastures on Saturday, July 21.

“Securing an act like Jessie J, who has a global fan base, is testament to the previous success of the annual Pastures Concert.

“This show will establish Alnwick as one of the UK’s major venues for outdoor summer shows. It’s fantastic news that Jessie will be drawing her crowds of fans to Alnwick this summer.” Other events in Alnwick this year include Diamond Jubilee celebrations and the arrival of the Olympic Torch on June 14.

Details of the acts that will support Jessie J have yet to be released.
