A NORTH East hotel is concocting an anniversary menu with a celebrity seal of approval.

To mark its fifth birthday, Jesmond Dene House, in Newcastle, is creating a five-course Tasting Menu featuring famous guests’ favourite dishes.

The guests include household names such as the Hairy Bikers, Simon Cowell, Patrick Stewart, Bryan Ferry and Robson Green, as well as a raft of sportspeople and the Match of the Day presenters.

Although the menu has not yet had the finishing touches, head chef Pierre Rigothier is hoping to be able to reveal the dishes in the next few weeks.

Since opening, the hotel has enjoyed five years of success.

It has been awarded four red stars, three AA Rosettes, was the North East Tourism Gold Winner 2008 and, in the same year, was named AA Hotel of the Year. It has also won awards for its wine list while the restaurant was named one of the top 10 restaurants outside London.

The hotel was the culmination of an ambitious multi-million pound refurbishment project, which restaurateur Terry Laybourne and Peter Candler embarked upon, along with their two fellow directors, when they bought and rescued the almost derelict historic building located in two acres of gardens in the heart of Jesmond Dene.
