HIP hop stars Black Eyed Peas made an impromptu visit to the North East after a recommendation from fellow pop star Cheryl Cole.

Rapper will.i.am and bandmates travelled to sample the delights of Newcastle, which included a whistle-stop call at the city’s Tup Tup Palace nightspot.

The club is said to be a favourite of Cheryl’s, who spent New Year’s Eve there. And the Geordie pop princess is known to be close friends with Black Eyed Peas frontman will.i.am.

Tweeting to his 1.1 million followers at 1am yesterday, Will said: “I’m partying in Cheryl Cole’s hometown... (Newcastle) :) fun fun fun!!!”

Their visit came after the band’s performance at One Big Weekend festival in Carlisle on Saturday, where Lady Gaga was the headline act.

Having belted out their top-10 singles, will.i.am, Taboo, Fergie and apl.de.ap, partied at the St Nicholas Street venue until the early hours.

Chart-toppers Will and Cheryl have been friends since she had her first solo performance on the rapper’s track Heartbreaker in 2008. Their working relationship continued when they collaborated on Cole’s first solo album 3 Words.

A source at Tup Tup Palace said: “They headed for the club, which was hosting NE1’s Newcastle Fashion Week launch party, on Cheryl’s recommendation. The stars partied until the early hours alongside Sunderland’s Anton Ferdinand and Fraizer Campbell and the cast of the forthcoming Geordie Shore MTV reality show.”

Rachel Jacques, VIP and events manager at the club, said: “will.i.am and the other guys were so polite, but they got stuck in and enjoyed a really good Geordie night out.

“I think they knew they could come to Tup Tup and enjoy the privacy of the VIP lounge, but still feel like they’re part of the main party at the same time.

“We’ve developed a really good relationship with lots of celebrities by supporting them when they first come and, and helping their careers. Will.i.am was dancing on the tables and chairs, and he was trying to do a Geordie accent. He was pretty good actually, I think he must have practised with Cheryl.”

As this year’s official nightlife partner for Newcastle Fashion Week, Tup Tup Palace will be hosting a series of glamorous events throughout the week. Today it will stage the Mish Mash Geek Chic Party, with the Lovedough presents Adidas Originals fashion and dance event on Thursday.

That will be followed by the official Miss Newcastle party on Friday.
