Two Castles Housing Association is installing Air Source Heat Pumps in some of its 3,300 properties in the North which will extract heat from air and transfer it to houses through radiators or underfloor heating.

Blaze praise

POLICE who kicked down the front door of a sleeping woman's house to save her from her blazing fish fingers have been praised.

The two officers burst in to the house on Beaconsfield Street in Darlington in the early hours of Sunday after neighbours heard a smoke alarm inside the property.

Upstairs they found a fully-clothed woman who had earlier been out drinking with friends asleep on her bed after starting to make a late-night snack. Fire officials said if the officers had been 10 minutes later the fire could have had fatal consequences.

On a mission

JET-SETTING youngsters are preparing for a visit to the Middle East to help promote international understanding.

A partnership project between Sunderland's Youth Development Group and colleagues from Finland, Denmark, Estonia, Austria and the Qatar Youth Department will see 10 teenagers recruited from youth forums across the town travel to the Middle East on March 10.

DENTAL practices in Sunderland have been equipped with a computer system to update the way patient records are managed.

New IT equipment and networks have been installed at 33 locations across the city. Bosses say the £400,000 investment means dental records can now be accessed alongside mainstream NHS records.
