IT’S the one day when mums are the centre of attention and if your loved ones are taking you out for a Mothers' Day treat, then you’ll need something special to wear.
Ann Harvey has a great selection of dresses suitable for older ladies. The store has a great floral maxi dress for £75 and a smart coral dress and jacket for £150.
For larger ladies, Evans has a fantastic spring/summer collection. Their waterfall jacket, pictured left, with embroidered vest and tailored shorts makes a stunning Mothers’ Day outfit.
CC, formerly Country Casual, has a great range of separates and dresses including a shrug (£50) which looks great teamed with a crinkle shirt (£89) and matching top (£40).
Shift dresses are popular again this season and look great teamed with heels and a matching handbag.
Betty Jackson Black at Debenhams has a muted yellow Chartreuse frill dress (£50), pictured right, while Austin Reed has a grey shift with detailed waist for £185.
For a more casual look, Betty Barclay has a striking floral dress (£80) which looks great teamed with a short denim jacket (£115), which is one of the season’s must-have buys.
Dash also has a casual navy stripe jersey frock for £45.
Whether you choose formal or fancy, you can look stunning on your special day.
Ask Julien Macdonald
TO celebrate the launch of Julien Macdonald’s new Star collection at Debenhams in Newcastle, we are inviting Journal readers to pose a question to the fashion designer.
The Welsh designer is one of the UK’s biggest fashion names.
Soon after graduating from art school, he was recruited by Karl Lagerfeld to work for Chanel. He also worked freelance creating knitwear for Alexander McQueen.
In 2000, he was appointed as successor to McQueen as chief designer at the Paris Haute Couture house of Givenchy, and in 2001, he was named British Fashion Designer of the Year.
His creations have been worn by stars including Kylie Minogue, Dame Shirley Bassey, and Naomi Campbell. He was also selected by British Airways to redesign flight attendants’ uniforms.
In June 2006, he was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.
