Families enjoy all the fun of the fair after weekend of bad weather

The North East Fun Fair 2014 was forced to close rides on Sunday due to high winds

Families finally got to enjoy all the fun of the fair after a weekend of poor weather and high winds shut rides at the North East Fun Fair 2014.

The event, at Herrington County Park near Sunderland, is now in its second year and was founded in 2013 after The Hoppings fair in Newcastle was cancelled.

Over the weekend it returned and 100 colourful rides and games set up on Friday night near Penshaw Monument.

However high winds had shut the fair down by Sunday night.

It re-opened yesterday however, and the event will run until Monday August 25.

Chris Alexander, chief operating officer at Sunderland Live, the organisation which runs the North East Funfair, said: “We have had great interest in the opening weekend of the event despite poor weather on Saturday and having to close the funfair on Sunday due to high winds.

“Now that the weather has settled we are looking forward to welcoming significant numbers of visitors over the next week.”
