Drivers taken to hospital after crash on A697 near Whittingham

TWO people had to be taken to hospital following this head on collision in Northumberland.

TWO people had to be taken to hospital following this head on collision in Northumberland. A 4x4 and a convertible were in collision on the A697 near Whittingham at around 9am yesterday, injuring the drivers of both vehicles.

A woman thought to be in her 30s from Nottingham was airlifted to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle by the Great North Air Ambulance with head and shoulder injuries.

Her condition on arrival was described as stable and her injuries are not to be life threatening. A man was taken to the same hospital by road ambulance.

The road was close temporarily following the collision and diversions were put in place.

Northumbria Police and Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service also attended.
