Police are appealing for witnesses after a car hit four stationary vehicles in South Tyneside.

The blue Fiat Punto was heading along Hedgeley Road, in Hebburn, when it hit the vehicles at around 2.20am yesterday.

The driver and passenger, both men, were taken to South Tyneside District Hospital where their condition was described as "stable".

Two injured

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a car hit a tree and overturned in Northumberland.

The Peugeot 306 lost control round a bend on the A196 between Morpeth and Guidepost, near the Bothal junction, at around 7.50am on Saturday.

It left the road, smashing into a tree and flipping on to its roof.

The driver, a 19-year-old man from Stakeford, suffered leg injuries, while a 16-year-old boy in the front seat suffered head injuries. Anyone with information is asked to call Motor Patrols in Blyth on (01661) 861972.

Robbery charges

A TEENAGER has appeared in court charged with four street robberies, which all happened in the space of one hour.

Daniel Weatherson, 18, of Cheviot Green, Dunston, Gateshead, appeared at Gateshead Magistrates' Court on Saturday. He was charged with the robberies which took place on Wednesday, October 11, in the Old Durham Road, Mulgrave Villas and St Cuthbert's Road areas of Gateshead. A second man, aged 21, was arrested and later released on police bail.
