Bridge lit up for diabetes awareness

Gateshead Millennium Bridge will be lit up in blue today to mark the first World Diabetes Day since last year’s United Nations resolution which recognised the illness as a major threat to world health.

Gateshead Millennium Bridge will be lit up in blue today to mark the first World Diabetes Day since last year’s United Nations resolution which recognised the illness as a major threat to world health.

A blue circle, the global symbol for diabetes, will be projected onto the Gateshead pedestrian and cycle bridge, which is the world’s only tilting bridge.

It is among 150 iconic buildings and monuments around the world to be bathed in blue for the UN awareness campaign, including The Empire State Building, Sydney Opera House, the Leaning Town of Pisa, Tokyo Tower and Niagara Falls.
