Former Olympian Brendan Foster enlisted the help of his granddaughter to light up a Northumberland village for the festive season.

The founder of the Great North Run, who is from Hebburn, was helped by three-year-old Florrie to switch on the Christmas lights in Bamburgh this weekend.

Residents gathered at St Aidan’s Church for a Christmas church service followed by the big switch on outside on Saturday night.

This year, the village had a new addition to its festive decorations in the form of life-size wood carvings of the nativity scene sculpted by Ross McNeil, from Cambois.
