Councillors in Crook, County Durham, have given their backing to proposals to invest hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of cash into play areas in the town.
A total of £84,000 has been earmarked for nearby Hunwick and £362,000 earmarked for Crook itself.
A ROTARY club has distributed 1,000 free books to aid the 10th annual United Nations educational, scientific and cultural organisation World Book Day.
The books were provided for free in public places throughout the region by members of the Rotary Club of Monkseaton Centenary. World Book Day is a partnership between publishers, booksellers and interested parties to promote reading for the personal enrichment and enjoyment of all. Rotary Club of Monkseaton president Celia Leach said: "I am delighted that 30 of the members of this club managed to distribute 1,000 books to over 200 locations in one day."
