A grandson is being held on suspicion of murder after his grandmother and father were found dead at a house.
Glen Patterson, 25, of Front Street in Benton, North Tyneside, has been charged with murder after Clara Patterson, 82, and Ray Patterson, 61, were found dead at the same address.
Yesterday, officers stood guard in the well-tended gardens of the detached stone property.
Police were initially called to Front Street just after 9pm on Tuesday after reports that a half-naked man was causing a disturbance running into oncoming traffic.
But after arriving in the street, they discovered the bodies of Clara and Ray.
Student Daniel Saxon was driving home from kickboxing in Wallsend when he saw a man wearing nothing on his top half run straight out in front of him.
The stunned 19-year-old said: “He darted into the road and collided with two moving cars.
“He smashed into one and then was hit by a taxi and his sandals flew off.
“I pulled over and with a taxi driver was able to get to him and help him out of the road.”
The house, about 200 yards from the Black Bull pub, was a hive of police activity yesterday as forensic teams continued their investigations carrying in large evidence bags.
Police officers stood at the entrances to the five-bedroom house and along the street as parents filed past on the school-run.
Two bodies were later carried out.
Chief Supt Steve Neill, North Tyneside Area Commander, said: “Extra neighbourhood officers are out on patrol in the area around Front Street and Benton to provide reassurance and to gather information.”
Patterson was due to appear at North Tyneside Magistrates’ Court this morning.
Results of post mortems are expected later today.
