The Tyneside stars are up for best comedy entertainment personality; comedy entertainment programme (Ant and Dec's Christmas Takeaway) and the People's Choice award (Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway).

Extras co-stars Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant will compete for the title of best TV comedy actor.

The follow-up to The Office, written and directed by the pair, is also a potential People's Choice. Other nominees for the December 13 awards include Charlotte Church and Russell Brand for best newcomer. Church, 20, is in the running for C4's The Charlotte Church Show. Brand, 31, is up for E4's Russell Brand's Got Issues.

Comedy partners David Mitchell and Robert Webb have a joint nomination as comedy actor for their Channel 4 comedy Peep Show.

They are also up for best new TV comedy for That Mitchell and Webb Look (BBC2).

The Peep Show is also contending for best comedy, with Extras and The Thick of It (BBC4).

Catherine Tate is up for comedy actress against Katherine Parkinson from The IT Crowd and Tamsin Greig, of Green Wing.
