The Prime Minister appeared on BBC1's Football Focus talking knowledgeably about the current state of the game.

The programme exposed as a myth the story that he once claimed he used to watch Newcastle United legend Jackie Milburn.

It played the original interview on which the story was based, proving that he actually said he began supporting Newcastle "just after the Jackie Milburn era" and that he saw his first game in the 1960s.
