The Co-op at Station Road, Annfield Plain, near Stanley, County Durham, closed yesterday and will re-open in a few months as a Tesco supermarket.

Ten full-time and 38 part-time staff are to transfer to Tesco.

The closure ends a Co-op link with the village going back 100 years.

The previous store was demolished and rebuilt brick by brick in nearby Beamish Open Air Museum.
