THE picturesque views of the River Coquet have been the most enjoyable aspect of living in Felton Mill for Allan and Julie Taylor.

Dating from the 18th Century, this Grade II-listed conversion was a wood and grain mill before it was converted in the 1980s. Felton Mill, one of four properties in the small development, is now a stunning four-bedroom home

The couple moved to Felton Mill, in the Northumberland village of Felton, four years ago, after falling in love with the tranquillity the property affords. Allan particularly loves the spacious 23ft reception room that leads out on to the terrace where the couple love the river views.

Allan said: “The wildlife is lovely here. There’s a heron, two kingfishers and even an otter – but you have to be lucky to see him!”

Situated on a small private road shared with three other homes, the building unites traditional features with modern living. There is a spiral staircase linking the three floors and two attractive gardens at the front of the house. The family home oozes character. It has an impressive kitchen/breakfast room with Belfast sink and Rangemaster cooker, as well as a dining room and study area. The 23ft lounge with porcelain-tiled floor, a large picture window overlooking a patio terrace and French doors to a timber balcony with delightful river views. A separate a sitting room, which could be used as a dining room, also with porcelain floor tiles and exposed beams. There is also a cloakroom.

The first floor has a master bedroom with en- suite shower room, bathroom and two further double bedrooms. The second floor has a galleried landing, study area and the fourth bedroom. Particular features include generous-sized rooms, exposed beams and stripped floorboards. The rooms are well lit with contemporary spotlights and Velux windows.

At the back of the property is a patio garden with stone barbecue and river views, as well as two garages with parking in a separate block.

The village of Felton has a good range of facilities including restaurants, shops, a historic church and a school.

Allan and Julie have decided it’s time for a change, but are hoping to stay local.

Allan said: “Felton is a beautiful little village. You can enjoy everything from relaxing river strolls to a nice pub lunch. We will be very sad to leave such a wonderful home.”

1 Felton Mill, Felton, is for sale through Sanderson Young at £410,000, tel: 01665 600170.
