STARGAZERS will gather for an evening of astronomical fun in the Northumberland countryside.

The Forestry Commission is offering night owls a window to the universe by staging a glittering star party at Kielder Water and Forest Park.

Powerful telescopes provided by Sunderland Astronomical Society will reveal galaxies millions of light years away.

The event has become one of the most popular in the beauty spot’s annual calendar.

Organiser Malte Iden said: “Seeing the night sky in all its glory away from street lights is quite wonderful and Kielder is one of the best places in the UK to enjoy the spectacle. This is always a night to remember.”

The event takes place on Saturday December 4 from 5.30pm, but participants must book ahead by calling 01434 250209.

The cost is £5 adults, £4 children and concessions or £14 for a family ticket.

It is recommended that people bring binoculars.

Christmas trees will be on sale until 6pm and refreshments will be available.
