Two in court over alleged 'quiche raid' at Berwick cafe

Two men have appeared in court after a cafe was raided and sparked a five-hour stand-off with police

Two men have appeared in court after a cafe was raided.

The break-in, in Berwick, sparked a five-hour stand-off with police.

Trained police negotiators along officers armed with tasers surrounded the Cafe @Marshalls, at Scremerston in Northumberland, which is part of Marshall’s Leisure shop.

The stand-off lasted until around 6am when two men were eventually brought out.

Barry Kirsopp, 21, of no fixed abode, and Dean Matthew Thompson, 20, of Brickfield Lodge, Tweedmouth, Berwick, have both been charged with burglary and affray.

They appeared before South East Northumberland Magistrates Court.

Both men were remanded in custody until their next appearance,at Newcastle Crown Court.
