A NORTHUMBERLAND shop has been shortlisted for a national award.
The Co-operative Food in Rothbury is on its way being named the company’s store of the year.
Only 18 shops out of nearly 3,000 will go forward to the final of the competition.
The winner will be announced at The Co-operative’s “Good With Food Awards” in November.
Stores are judged on criteria, including the ability to demonstrate a high standard of store presentation, produce quality, customer service and team engagement, as well as being able to show exceptional commitment to the community, and an impressive business performance over the last twelve months.
Kevin Burdis, manager of the store, in High Street, Rothbury, said: “My team works really hard all year to make sure we deliver a top-class service for shoppers, so it is fantastic that their efforts are being recognised by such a prestigious award.
“I’m already really proud of what we have achieved by getting shortlisted but if we win the overall title then that will certainly be cause for a big celebration.”
David Mockford, Co-operative operations director, said: “Being shortlisted in the competition is a huge achievement.
“It may sound clichéd but the standard of the nominations really does go up every year and this year is no exception. The bar has certainly been raised higher than ever before.”
All shortlisted stores will now be visited by a panel of judges before the winner is announced at an awards ceremony in Manchester.
