A RESCUE operation was launched after two people went missing while rafting on a river.

Emergency services were called to the River Blyth, near Hartford Bridge, in Bedlington, last night, after the man and woman vanished.

Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service’s swift water rescue team were deployed at around 10.15pm while the Northumbria Police helicopter searched the area from the skies.

However, the pair were located about an hour later on the river bank.

They were taken to hospital, but their injuries are not thought to be serious.
