SUPERMARKET staff are doing their bit for charity in 2011.
Staff at the Co-operative Food store in Oakfield Terrace, Prudhoe, Northumberland, dressed up in a variety of costumes, including cheerleaders, to help launch the shop’s individual fundraising efforts for the company’s Charity of the Year, Mencap. Last year the company raised a record total of £3.7m nationwide for the RNID (The Royal National Institute for Deaf People).
But this year they are hoping to beat that total. Iain Watt, store manager at Prudhoe, is delighted the company has decided to pick the charity as its recipient for the year.
He said: “It’s the start of a busy year of fundraising, and we’ll have a lot to do before we cross the finishing line, but it will be worth it.”
