Past glories celebrated at Cragside

FAMILIES have been having a blast with the past at a Northumberland stately home.

Visitors have been meeting Prince Edward, Princess Alexandra and Lord Armstrong – or at least the actors playing them.

It is part of a seven-week event at Cragside, near Rothbury, which celebrates the three-day stay of the then Prince and Princess of Wales.

The latest event sees self-taught designer Luca Costigliolo recreating the tailored pink and cream dress that the Princess wore during the visit.

Visitors can watch as he painstakingly creates a life-size reproduction using the same materials and cutting and sewing techniques that would have been employed 126 years ago to make the Danish-born princess’s stunning silk taffeta and lace dress.
