THE mother of a teenage Northumberland girl attacked on her doorstep has revealed the overwhelming support her daughter has received.

THE mother of a teenage Northumberland girl attacked on her doorstep has revealed the overwhelming support her daughter has received.

Charlotte Barber, 18, was assaulted outside her home at Percy Terrace in Alnwick at shortly before 3am on Sunday.

She was taken to Wansbeck General Hospital for treatment to her injuries and returned to the home she shares with mother Claire, 48, and younger sister Olivia, on Monday.

Claire, who runs a public relations company at which Charlotte is an assistant, told of the support for her daughter.

She said: "We have been inundated with Facebook messages, flowers, balloons, cards and presents for Charlotte.

"Charlotte has over 1,000 messages on her Facebook. The support is overwhelming from the people of Alnwick."

Northumbria Police arrested a 21-year- old man in the aftermath of the attack.

Christopher James Egdell, of Alnwick Moor, appeared before South East Northumberland magistrates at Bedlington on Wednesday morning charged in connection with the incident.

Egdell, who gave his address as Tarset, Bellingham, is charged with assault causing grievous body harm and criminal damage.

Egdell was given conditional bail and his case was adjourned until September 29 when he is due to appear at Berwick Magistrates Court.
