TWO men will appear in court later this month after being charged with theft as part of a police crackdown on scrap metal thieves in Northumberland.

Joseph Nott, 27, and Daniel Mark Clerk, 25, both from Wallsend, were arrested in connection with the theft of manhole covers in the Lynemouth area last week. They are due to appear at Bedlington magistrates’ court on February 14.

The action is part of Operation Coin, which has seen Northumbria Police officers stop and check more than 1,200 vehicles for stolen metal on Northumberland’s roads since being launched last November.
