For Jennifer and Maurice Chadwick, their beautiful detached property in Cleadon Village has provided the perfect space for three generations of their family.
The couple bought the immaculate four-bedroomed house on Meadowfield Drive 25 years ago, due to the fact it offered plenty of space to accommodate Jennifer’s mother as well as their two teenage sons.
Jennifer said: “It’s a lovely, flexible family house. We bought the property because my mother was coming to live with us and there was room for her to have her own bedroom and sitting room.
“It easily accommodated three generations of the family at the time. The house is located in a cul-de-sac which means it’s very quiet and safe for children.”
The house, located within a private cul-de-sac, features a hallway with Canadian cherry hardwood flooring and glass staircase. There is also a formal dining room, study/playroom and refitted cloakroom.
The drawing room has a period-style fireplace with marble surround, while the garden room has a vaulted ceiling with French doors to the rear garden. Since the couple bought the property, they have enlarged the kitchen and utility, and added the fourth bedroom.
The breakfasting kitchen is a firm favourite with Jennifer. It features a vaulted ceiling, Velux roof lights, recently fitted contemporary units, and integrated modern appliances. There is also a utility room.
Jennifer said: “I love the kitchen. We designed it so it would be easy to work in. I find it a total pleasure. I cook quite a bit. I also like the garden room which overlooks the back garden. It’s lovely and relaxing, and would also be perfect as a dining room or play room. It’s extremely light and airy.”
Upstairs there is a master bedroom with en suite, three further bedrooms and family bathroom with oversized shower cubicle.
The well-tended gardens are a feature of the property. Features include formal lawn areas, pathways, pond, patio areas, greenhouse, shed, vegetable plot and two stores. There is also a garage with electric roller shutter door.
Jennifer said: “I’m a very keen gardener. I look after the vegetable garden and the greenhouse. The garden is very private. We’re not overlooked. We’ve got a choice of two patios, and it’s just a lovely place to spend time.”
The retired couple have decided to downsize. And having lived in Cleadon Village all 51 years of their married life, there’s nowhere else they would rather live.
“We’ve always lived in Cleadon Village, all our married life. It’s such a lovely place to live. It’s a quiet leafy village surrounded by farmland. It has excellent links to Newcastle and the airport via the Metro, and it’s just a 20 minute drive to Newcastle and five minutes to the coast. The village has a wide range of shops and amenities, as well as excellent schools and nurseries.
“It’s also just two minutes walk to a fabulous park which has tennis courts, bowling green, children’s play area, large field and a wooded area. It’s an absolutely perfect spot for families. We’ve decided to downsize and stay in Cleadon because we love it.”
