This beautiful detached property in one of Gosforth's most sought-after streets is the perfect place to put down roots

With a “continental feel” and plenty of space to entertain guests and raise a family, this charming property offered everything Jamie and Sharon Adams were looking for in a home.

Playing host to regular music concerts and international visitors, the couple have also raised their two daughters, Harriet, 22, and Charlotte, 25, in the beautiful detached property which is in a sought-after street in Gosforth, Newcastle.

Criminal barrister Jamie explains: “We’ve held some great events here, with everyone from Russian balalaika players to members of the Sinfonia. I know many people in the world of Spanish and South American guitar and co-founded the Newcastle Guitar Society and have hosted many concerts here. The house just lends itself to each and every occasion.

“It’s amazingly versatile and has also been a fantastic family home, It’s got great vibes about it and a rich history too. One previous owner wrote about the Holocaust.”

Generously proportioned accommodation includes a 19ft reception hallway with feature stone fireplace, two large reception rooms which overlook a large and beautifully kept rear lawned garden, a contemporary kitchen with warm cherry wood units, a guest cloakroom, utility room, larder, double length garage and store room.

The first floor has a light and airy open landing with fitted shelves which is ideal for an office/study, and loft access. There are six bedrooms, five of which are doubles and an en suite master. There is also a main family bathroom and separate shower room/WC.

“I particularly love my study because it looks out onto the garden,” says Jamie, who adds: “The master bedroom is another favourite of mine because it’s such a calming place to be.

“You can sit and look out of the bay window onto the garden at all of the trees and the tall Beech hedge which completely governs the borders at the back. When it’s in full bloom it’s absolutely beautiful.

“The garden is completely enclosed. You would never know you had any neighbours or give onto a main road because it’s so noiseless. It’s like you’re in different world.”

Jamie, 64, and Sharon, 57, have carried out substantial improvements to the property since buying it 11 years ago. They have installed a new boiler and central heating system, renewed pipework, fully prepared the loft space for storage and created a luxurious bathroom and toilet to the ground floor.

According to Jamie, there’s also plenty of scope for a new owner to put their own stamp on the place: “There is plenty of room to extend if you wanted too.

“Although there are already six bedrooms here, you could easily get another two or three up in the loft if you wanted.” Additionally, there is ample parking space to the front of the property for several cars, and a side gate giving access to the rear.

Mixing modern contemporary and traditional features, the property has considerable character.

“It’s almost like a continental villa,” describes Jamie, adding: “The whole house has a fantastically warm feel about it. The stairs go up to a dual level landing and all of the rooms are big and spacious. It’s just very cosy and is only five minutes from the city centre.

“Everything is just so amazingly convenient about it. It’s a great family home and ideal to entertain people in. We just fancy a change now because both of our girls are about to fly the nest.

“This is the only detached property on this side of Kenton Road and whoever buys it will be getting a bargain.”
