This spectacular and spacious family home was built and designed by company director Gary Thornton six years ago.
Situated in Darras Hall, Northumberland, the immaculate property provides extensive and luxurious accommodation and has been a “brilliant” place to live for Gary, 51, and his partner Jacklyn, 32.
“I’ve built several other houses in the area and so I put a lot of ideas from other builds into this one,” explains Gary, who is dad to Francesca, 21, Sophia, three, and India, one.
He adds: “There’s just under 6,000 sq ft of space, the open plan breakfasting kitchen was handmade by a specialist joinery company. It’s also got underfloor heating which is superb in all seasons, because in summer it keeps the property nice and cool, and in winter it keeps the temperature constant.
“There’s also a lovely orangery with fabulous arched windows, which, along with the kitchen, makes great family living space. I wouldn’t have done anything differently in the design at all.”
Beautifully appointed and well proportioned accommodation includes a 35ft lounge with floor to ceiling slate fireplace. The orangery-style extension also features a lantern roof and is the main hub of the home according to Gary.
There is also a vast dining area, study/play room and the contemporary breakfasting kitchen spans 32ft to provide a vast reception area. An impressive reception hallway features a superb central staircase which leads to first floor accommodation.
Here there are four large en suite bedrooms, including an impressive 24ft master which is fitted with a good range of wardrobes and french doors which lead out onto a Juliet balcony. A separate 20ft fitted office/study room could easily be utilised as a fifth bedroom if required.
Comtemporary fixtures and fittings are all of an extremely high standard and the property is flawlessly presented both inside and out.
“The house is very well proportioned and has been very well maintained,” says Gary.
“One of the bedrooms is currently being used as an office and each bedroom has a different roof style, so no two are the same. They are all extremely spacious too - there are no small rooms,” he adds.
Other luxurious touches include a secure video entry system, an energy efficient LED lighting system, travertine tiled flooring and ceiling spotlights throughout the home.
Electric gates open onto a large block paved driveway which provides ample parking space in addition to an attached double garage. To the rear is a generous family garden which is beautifully bordered by a range of plants and shrubs, and has a substantial patio area. A large lawn is divided by a central pathway which leads to a wrought iron pergola.
“All of the gardens are fully and beautifully landscaped and very well stocked,” says Gary. “There’s a large parking area for around four or five cars and the entrance is extremely secure.” The versatile property is also ideally placed for commuting to Newcastle city centre and is easily accessible from Newcastle International Airport.
“It is close to the village of Ponteland which has a range of pubs, restaurants and shops, along with leisure facilities and schools for all ages.
“I have always wanted to live in Ponteland because of the amenities,” explains Gary, who adds: “It’s a great place to live because its semi-rural so it’s very quiet and peaceful while still being within an easy reach of everything. We’ve got excellent neighbours and although we’re looking to stay in Ponteland, I’ll be very sorry to leave this house.”
