High praise for Roman Army Museum at Carvoran

MUSEUM based on Hadrian’s Wall has received an award from TripAdvisor, the world’s largest travel site.

MUSEUM based on Hadrian’s Wall has received an award from TripAdvisor, the world’s largest travel site.

The Roman Army Museum at Carvoran in Northumberland has been recognised with a 2013 Certificate of Excellence.

It places the museum in the top-performing 10% of businesses worldwide on TripAdvisor, and is only given to candidates which consistently earn high ratings from TripAdvisor travellers.

Patricia Birley, director of the Vindolanda Trust, which runs the museum, said: “It is wonderful to receive this accolade for the Roman Army Museum and great to know that our visitors really appreciate the combination of the special nature of this heritage attraction and our friendly and welcoming staff.”

Visitors to the site can step into the shoes of a Roman soldier and experience life on the front line of the empire.

It includes reconstructions, objects excavated along Hadrian's Wall and the 3D Edge of Empire film.
