The winner of a TV baking contest is heading to Hadrian’s Wall country to launch his new book.

John Whaite, who triumphed in the Great British Bake Off, is to make a personal appearance and sign copies of his new book at Vallum Farm near Newcastle on July 31, with independent bookseller Forum Books in Corbridge.

The event has been arranged by Forum Books’ owner, Helen Stanton, who will be co-hosting the night at Vallum, which will include an author interview and audience Q&A, plus sweet and savoury bakes from award-winning chef David Kennedy and drinks in a marquee.

Whaite’s new book, John Whaite Bakes: Recipes for Every Day and Every Mood, details recipes for every day and every mood.

Whaite said: “I’m thrilled to launch my first book. I’ve had an obsession with baking since I was a tiny tot and having my own cookery book has always been a dream.  I feel very lucky to have the opportunity to express my passion in Northumberland.”

Helen  said: “These are the first in a series of events and launches we are hosting with Vallum in the coming months. It’s the perfect venue, and to have John Whaite visit the region is a real coup.”

Tickets are £6, including a welcome drink on arrival and food tickets are £4 if booked in advance or £5 on the night. They are available at: Forum Books, Market Place, Corbridge, NE45 5AW, tel 01434 632 931 www.forumbooks.co.uk; and at Vallum Farm, East Wallhouses, Newcastle, NE18 0LL, tel 01434 672 652, www.vallumfarm.co.uk
