Gladiators and cavalry soldiers to seize control of Corbridge Roman Town

A CENTURION has taken an early bath as English Heritage prepares for a Roman Summer at its North East properties.

Housesteads, Chesters and Birdoswald Roman forts will play host to legions of visitors as they put on events including time travelling activities, performances, crafts and the chance to join the ranks of the Roman Army.

Gladiators and cavalry soldiers will also seize control of Corbridge Roman Town for a gladiatorial extravaganza over August Bank Holiday.

Jon Hogan, events manager at English Heritage, said: "From falconry displays to full-on gladiatorial battles, the Roman Army is once again taking control of sites along Hadrian’s Wall. Visitors of all ages will be able to experience what life was like on the Roman frontier while little soldiers will have the chance
